Welcome Trust Accommodation Building

The building is situated on the Genome Campus on the University of Cambridge.

The technical package was delivered by Saunders Boston in Cambridge, a client of RB Design Essex Ltd.

We helped to detail the facade and stairs, which are also a testament to the structural engineer.

Also designed by the company was the setting out of the landscaped communal courtyard to the rear of the building.

Concertus Ltd is a client of RB Design Essex Ltd

Estimated Completion August 2015

Estimated £5.9million

Concertus was asked to design and manage the construction of the new build Bridge Through Special School in Ipswich, to accommodate both primary and secondary school pupils with special educational needs.

The Aim:

The existing Bridge school is split with primary and secondary campuses on two sites in aging buildings. The aim of the project was to provide a through school on one site. The master plan was to build the primary school around the existing secondary school, and then for the existing secondary school to be rebuilt at a later date with the whole area being redesigned.

The building had to be designed and constructed to allow for the pupils specific needs and ensure they were provided with an environment which maximised natural lighting and ventilation.

Pakefield High, Lowestoft

Completed (phase 2) July 2014

£5.2million

The need for a new secondary school in Lowestoft was identified as part of Suffolk County Council's School Organisation Review.

The site at Pakefield Middle School was chosen to fulfil this vision which was planned over a number of phases. The work was completed in July 2014 to meet the requirement for a 900 pupils intake for September 2014.

The Aim:

The design was to provide a new school of excellence with fantastic facilities and core education focus in the Lowestoft area. A third phase of the works is in progress and will be managed and delivered by Concertus until the proposed completion in 2015.

The Scope:

Concertus were employed to provide the lead consultancy service for the project which was driven by our Project Management and Architectural Design teams. There was six months of pre-contract activity which included stakeholder engagement and planning up to the beginning of construction in June 2013.

Throughout the 11 months of construction works, Concertus was able to lead the project by managing all other consultants, working closely with the contractors to ensure that a clear and collaborative approach was used to ensure the delivery of the project.

With the withdrawal of Building Schools for the Future (BSF) funding the phase two and subsequent phase three led to a re-think of design, facilities and budget. Concertus was engaged by Suffolk County Council to deliver the new challenge for phase two and three and complete the facilities and curriculum requirements.
